How the evening unfolded
Live portrait illustration began during the drinks reception and continued through dinner and into the evening party. Guests are naturally curious when they spot an artist working in the room, and a small crowd often gathered to watch portraits appear on paper in real time. Some guests were sketched from life as they chatted and laughed; others were captured from photographs when the dancing started and people were moving around the room.
Every portrait was created in fountain pen ink and coloured with watercolour — a combination that produces illustrations with a loose, expressive quality that still feels stylish and considered. Couples, solo guests and small family groups all took part, building a lively and varied collection of drawings across the evening.
